Innovations to Transform Education

Robert Pianta, Dean of the Curry School of Education, will speak to alumni and parents in the Nashville area.  Dean Pianta will discuss the Curry School’s innovative educational research and programs that are transforming education in every state, including Tennessee, where the teacher assessment and training developed by the Curry’s Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) are being used in Memphis as part of the Gates Foundation’s Measures of Effective Teaching study. He will introduce the new MBA/MEd in Innovation and Education Reform, Curry’s new work in Education Leadership and its Education Innovation and Design Institute. Dean Pianta’s work has been nationally recognized by Andrea Mitchell of NBC Nightly News, Jay Mathews of the Washington Post and best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell, and he was asked to provide recommendations on public education to the Obama Presidential Transition Team.  In his recommendations he wrote, “Good teachers are key.  If we want to improve our students’ learning, we need to improve the quality of teachers and of teaching.”
