Off-Grounds Programs

At the Curry School of Education, we are bringing our classes to students all over the Commonwealth of Virginia with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and commitment.

Our classes are designed with you in mind.  We understand that you are busy, working professionals. We offer a variety of class schedules and locations across the Commonwealth.

Our faculty are experts in their fields and have worked to create a curriculum that holds you, our off-Grounds students, to the high standards of the University of Virginia.

And most importantly, our alumni are leaders.  They are discovering new challenges, creating innovative solutions and making positive changes in their classrooms, schools and districts.  We invite you to join us and count yourself among them.

On the pages to the left, you will find detailed information about each of the programs and offerings available in the UVA Centers around the Commonwealth.  You will also find contact information for the faculty member that coordinates each program.

“It was extremely important and meaningful to me that the Roanoke Center offered educational opportunities that would otherwise have only been available at the Curry School’s Charlottesville campus. I felt a particular sense of pride in being the only student who had actually been an undergraduate on-Grounds.

Through my previous experience, I knew first-hand the quality of instruction and curriculum offered by U.Va.; I had no doubt that I was being afforded the same quality of instruction as a participant in the off-Grounds program. I loved that I recognized names of 'actual professors' from the Curry School. They were enthusiastic, gifted, entertaining, and they willingly shared their rich experience and wisdom! I am proud to be a teacher, I am proud to be making a difference in the world, and I am so proud to be a graduate of U.Va.’s Curry School of Education. Wahoowa!”

M.Ed. 2010, Roanoke, VA & Falls Church, VA

Program Overview

SCPS-Curry Transition:

The Curry School of Education and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) are working together to provide a seamless transition of Off-Grounds education programming to Curry beginning on July 1, 2012.

Teacher and studentUntil that time coordination of services for all Off-Grounds students, programs and courses are the responsibility of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Any questions concerning enrollment, requirements, time, location and related matters should be referred to SCPS staff. Periodic updates to this message will be provided for students and faculty on each school’s website regarding next steps in this transition.

Any student currently enrolled in a degree program offered through SCPS will continue in that degree program with no interruption of course offerings or opportunities when the transition to Curry takes place.  After July 1, 2012, those students will be enrolled in Curry and their academic questions and needs addressed through Curry offices and staff.  Some of those Off-Grounds programs may not be accepting new students for Fall 2012, but all currently-enrolled students will be served.

All NEW students seeking enrollment in an Off-Grounds degree program to start after July 1, 2012 will apply and enroll directly through the Curry School and potential applicants should visit the Curry website for information on program offerings and locations and whether those programs will be enrolling new students.
