The Ed.D. in Gifted Education is a professional degree program that places emphasis on applied research and the application of research. Its curriculum is designed to prepare students to strategically confront the complex realities and challenges facing schools today and in the future from a broad-based perspective.
Prerequisites and Admission Requirements
An earned bachelor degree in education or related field; a masters degree; 3 years teaching experience; GRE scores earned within 5 years of application; writing sample; interview with one or more program area faculty

Degree Requirements
72 credits (up to 12 may be transferred in if at the graduate level and approved by the program area) inclusive of general coursework, internships, and the capstone project
Funding Opportunities
Some funding may be possible for full-time EdD students depending upon the applicant’s experiences and qualifications and a match with current needs of projects and grants
Typical Length of Study
3-4 years of full time study inclusive of internship and capstone project
Full or Part Time:
Ed.D. degrees may be pursued part time or full time, however there is a one-semester full time residency requirement
Course Overview
Required courses include 9 credit hours of foundational courses related to development; 27 credit hours in core courses of the field of gifted education which includes 12 credit hours in advanced seminars in the field of gifted education; 15 credit hours in research core courses; 9 or more credits of gifted education and/or general electives; and 12 or more credits associated with internship and practicum experiences.
