The Curry School offers dual degree programs with 4 other schools at UVA: Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, Darden School of Business, College of Arts & Sciences, and School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Students with an interest in the PhD in Education Policy program at the Curry School of Education who do not have a masters degree in education policy or public policy, are strongly encouraged to apply to the Master’s Public Policy (MPP) at U.Va.’s Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy. The dual degree program provides students with strong research skills and an applied policy focus. Dual degree students take courses at both schools for their first two years and immediately begin working on research projects. Following completion of the MPP at the end of the second year, students finish out course work in the PhD program and complete a dissertation typically within a total of 4-5 years. The dual degree provides a very strong foundation in public policy and applied research in Education Policy (Current student spotlight). A separate application into the MPP program is required.
The Curry School of Education and the Darden School of Business are partnering to provide studies designed for the next generation of leaders – those who will transform education in the United States and around the world.
Few roles in society provide the reach that educators have into, quite literally, millions of lives. But as the problems in the U.S. and other global education systems mount, they know that more needs to be done to make their reach effective. The Curry School of Education and the Darden School of Business are partnering to develop studies designed for the next generation of leaders–those who will innovate and transform education around the world in a variety of ways, through a variety of means.
Curry partners with the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) to offer B/MT degrees. Undergraduates enrolled in Teacher Education earn two degrees: a Bachelor’s (BA or BS) from the College of Arts and Sciences or in Engineering Science (BS) from SEAS and a Master of Teaching degree from the Curry School of Education. Both degrees are awarded simultaneously after all program requirements have been met. Students in the B/MT programs are advanced to graduate status at the end of the 4th year prior to student teaching in the 5th year. Those who plan carefully can complete their combined program of studies in fewer than 5 years. To accelerate the program, students must enroll in a three-week summer session prior to student teaching. You may be able to earn your bachelor’s degree and master's degree in four years, as part of the University’s 3+1 Program, if you have advanced standing in the University.
