Degrees

Off-Grounds M.Ed. in Administration & Supervision

The Master of Education degree requires at least 36 credits of graduate study for those seeking endorsement. The program also requires an internship experience and comprehensive examination for all graduates.

This program is currently offered in partnership with the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) but will be transitioned fully to the Curry School on July 1, 2012.  Click here for more information about the SCPS-Curry transition.

Prerequisites and Admission Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university;
  • B average or better for the last two years of undergraduate study;
  • online application for admission and official transcripts of all previous undergraduate and graduate work;
  • official score reports for the Graduate Record Examination (scores must be less than five years old);
  • three years of teaching experience and a Virginia teaching license;
  • two letters of recommendation from professionals who can attest to the applicants promise as a graduate student and a professional educator;
  • current résumé; and
  • statement of professional goals.

Application Due Date

June 1 for fall semester entry
October 15 for spring semester entry
March 15 for summer semester entry
All components of the application must be received by the due date.

Degree Requirements

  • A minimum of 36 credits of coursework for the master’s degree plus endorsement;
  • At least 30 credits completed after admission to the program;
  • Satisfactory performance on a comprehensive examination in the program area;
  • Application for graduation; and
  • Application for endorsement.

Typical Length of Study

By taking 2 courses per semester, students can complete the course of study in 6 semesters and the internship during the seventh semester.

Full or Part Time:

All students are part-time, working professionals.  Courses are offered on an alternating annual basis during fall, spring, and summer sessions.

Most students pursue assistant principal positions after completion of the program, but some step directly into principal or central office positions.
