Non-Degree Offerings

Curry has non-degree options for individuals seeking general professional development, alternate licensure or endorsement.

General Professional Development

General Professional Development status allows individuals who have not been admitted to a degree or state-approved licensure/endorsement program to enroll in classes taught in the Curry School. (If you live outside of Charlottesville and want to take a class through one of the off-site centers (e.g., N.VA, Richmond, Hampton Roads), you will need to register for offsite courses through the School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

If you have earned at least a baccalaureate degree and wish to take an on-Grounds course (in Charlottesville through the Curry School) during the fall or spring semester, you must complete a Permission to Enroll Form prior to the start of classes. See the academic calendar.

To enroll in classes:
  * Complete a Permission to Enroll Form during the  fall or spring semester you intend to enroll in classes.  You will not need to complete the form again, unless you drop out for a fall or spring semester.  Please note that registration for summer classes is handled through the Summer Session Office and requires a separate application process.

  * If you are a full-time K-12 educator in Virginia, submit the Special Tuition Form each semester you  register for a class.  This form allows  you take one class per semester at a special rate. Any additional courses taken during the semester will be billed at the regular tuition rate.

After we receive your documents, we will send you an email explaining how to register for class.  Some courses are restricted to degree-seekers only. Many applicants find this unofficial link to our course offering directory useful when looking for classes.  When selecting a course, be sure to email the instructor for permission to enroll.

Applications are due no later than the first week of classes. Remember, however, that classes fill up quickly. The sooner you submit your Permission to Enroll Form, the more likely you are to get in the class(es) you need.

You may apply up to 6 credits of general professional studies coursework toward a degree as long as the courses are relevant to your intended program of study.
