A word about the CLIC

Joint Statement from Curry and the University Library About the Relocation of the Curry Library Innovation Commons (CLIC)

As renovation plans for Ruffner Hall have developed over the summer, Curry and the University Library have worked together to effect a smooth transition for services in the Curry Library Innovation Commons (CLIC). To accommodate the renovation of Ruffner Hall, the CLIC will relocate to Bavaro Hall, room 306, on August 16th and will open to the public on August 17th.  The Ruffner Hall CLIC space will be closed to the public after August 15th.  The renovation of Ruffner Hall is scheduled to begin January 4, 2013 and all spaces throughout the building must be vacated before that date.  The relocation of the CLIC in August will enable renovation preparations to occur in stages.

The new CLIC location will continue to feature study space, offices for library staff, presentation and meeting space, and a collection of 300 research handbooks.  It will also provide public computers, a photocopier, a scanner, and a public printer.  During the fall semester, the CLIC will begin to expand the research services currently offered. Mark Hampton, Senior Associate Dean for Strategy and Planning at Curry and  Martha Sites, Deputy University Librarian, are working together to support new services for data-intensive research, and they will be reaching out to faculty and students for input this fall.

As the new CLIC location is much smaller than the current space, the children’s book collection will be moved to the 1st floor of Clemons Library on August 16th. Students and faculty will have access to that collection starting August 17th.  The CLIC’s Reserve and Hold services will be relocated to other library locations starting the Fall semester due to space limitations and changes that will impact mail delivery service during the renovation.

We will continue to communicate updates to you regarding the CLIC relocation and services. Faculty and students who have questions or suggestions about the transition are encouraged to contact Kay Buchanan, Head Librarian for Education Services.
