Developed by Curry School researchers, the Mathematics-Scan (M-Scan) is an observational assessment tool designed to help translate the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards into practice and improve mathematics instruction in elementary classrooms. The M-Scan offers teachers a framework for reflection and analysis of their own lessons, so that they can consider the quality of mathematical tasks, mathematical discourse, and other components of the mathematical learning environment.
This workshop will help administrators, teachers, and researchers envision high-quality mathematics instruction through concrete examples and interactive activities and learn how to use the M-Scan measure to reflect on and improve mathematics teaching.
