Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program (SEP)

Fostering talent development in gifted youth and their teachers

In coordination with the Curry School of Education, the Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) seeks to offer gifted and/or high ability students a rich and rewarding learning experience. Modeling best practices in curriculum and instruction, the SEP staff works as a community to maximize potential in each student and foster a passion for lifelong learning.

SEP hosts two programs throughout the year. The Saturday program serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade and the Summer residential program hosts students in rising fifth through eleventh grade. Please click on the corresponding links for further program and application information.

Saturday Enrichment Program:

The Saturday Enrichment Program has ended for winter 2012. Thank you to everyone who participated. We had a wonderful season filled with amazing students and amazing classes. The next Saturday program will be held in January-February 2013. Applications for that program will be on this website on October 15th, 2012.

The Saturday Enrichment Program is offered on 5 consecutive Saturdays every winter in January and February, between the first day of classes at UVa, and UVa Spring Break.

Summer Enrichment Program:

The Summer Enrichment Program applications for 2012 were due on February 15th, 2012. We accept late applications up to May 31, 2012. Late applicants will be placed on the wait list. If you wish to be on our mailing list for Summer 2013, please establish an electronic account (see Summer Application Process) listing your name, address and the name and age of your child/children, and we will contact you when it is time to apply for Summer 2013.

Notification of acceptance to the 2012 Summer program will be posted on your SEP account on or before April 15th, 2012, and we will send you an email to let you know that decisions have been posted. If admitted, you will have until May 1st, 2012 to accept our offer. To hold your spot you will be required to pay one-half of the tuition amount. Full tuition is $1200, so the first payment will be $600. If you have applied for financial aid, and were awarded aid, you will owe one-half of the reduced tuition by May 1 in order to hold your spot in camp. If you were awarded financial aid, the amount will show on your status page. The first tuition payment is non-refundable.

The second half of the tuition will be due by June 1st, 2012. It is important to mark this deadline on your calendar. If we do not receive the second payment by that date, we will assume you are not planning to attend, and will fill your spot with an applicant from the wait list. The second tuition payment is refundable if we are able to fill your spot in camp, which is usually possible unless you are canceling at the last minute.

If you are not accepted in the first round, you will be placed on the wait list. We will begin to call students on the wait list on May 7th. We typically accept approximately 60 students from the waitlist each summer. When a spot opens up in the same grade level and gender as your child, and  you have indicated availability for that session, and interest in the class that has the opening, we will call you to verify that you are still interested in attending SEP. If you are, we will place the student in that spot.

Please call us with any questions in the meantime! 434-924-3182.
