In conjunction with the Curry School of Education Gifted Education Department, the University of Virginia announces the 29th year of the Saturday Enrichment Program. This program serves gifted and/or high ability students who are in K-5th grade. Applications for this program are available below. Please read the application instructions carefully before applying. Remember that if you are applying for more than one child in your family, each child must have a separate, unique application. In order for us to help assign multiple children in one family to the same session, you should also list the other children on each application.

2013 Program Locations and Cost:
This program year, the Saturday Enrichment Program will be held in two Virginia locations.
Charlottesville - On grounds at the University of Virginia. The cost at the Charlottesville location is $150.
Two sessions of classes are held each Saturday: 9:00am-11:00am OR 11:30am-1:30pm.
Fauquier County - Highland School in Warrenton, VA. The cost at the Fauquier County location is $175.
One session of class is held each Saturday: 9:00am-11:00am.
In this program, our goal is to foster interest and a love of learning in a wide variety of fields and disciplines. Curriculum and instruction is designed to engage your child in authentic inquiries into major concepts and ideas of a field through critical, creative, and problem-based thinking/learning. At SEP, we recognize that each student is an individual. To that end, our staff is dedicated to meeting the varying readiness levels, learning preferences, and interests of our students in class. Our classes are taught by doctoral students at both the Curry School of Education and other departments across grounds as well as local teachers who have a specialty in gifted education. As a whole, our staff is dynamic, enthusiastic, and excited about working with these young scholars.
HOW TO APPLY
The deadline for completed applications was December 1, 2012. Acceptance decisions will be posted on your child's account on or before December 15th. We will send an email to you when those decisions are posted. We have received more completed applications that we have places for. If your child is placed on the wait list, we will contact you as soon as a place opens.

NOTE: Links open in the same window. Use your back arrow button to return to this screen after opening each link.
HOW TO APPLY ONLINE FOR 2013:
Create Family Account.
We have a new online application system this year. We used it for the Summer 2012 program, so if you had a child attend Summer 2012, you already have a FAMILY ACCOUNT. If not, you will need to create your new Family Account. Once you have created the account, you can sign in at any time under “Family Sign In.” Please provide an email address which we can use to communicate with the parent or guardian of the child or children who will be applying to SEP. Establish a password. Please make a note of this password, and the primary email address you submitted so that you will be able to access this account later. Give your account a Family Name, for instance “Smith-Jones Family.” After you have created the Family Account, you will have the opportunity to add one or more children to this account.
Add the parents' or guardians’ names and address to the next screen. With this new program, you will only need to type this information once. As you add children to your account, you will not have to retype any demographic information. You will be able to edit demographic information later if necessary.
Add One or More Children.
Add one child at a time, with their name, nickname if they have one, their date of birth, and gender. Indicate whether the child’s primary home address is the mother’s address or the father’s (important if the parents do not reside in the same household.)
This page will list the children you have added to your account, and you can continue to add children from this page by clicking “Add Child.” When the child’s name has been added, click on the program that the child is applying to. We have two programs: Saturday and Summer. Chose Saturday, and you’ll be taken to the “Saturday Student Home” page.

The Teacher Recommendation
In many cases, your child’s teacher is the one who suggested that you consider SEP for your child. If this is the case, they already know about the program and you can simply type their name and email address into our online form and we will take care of contacting them for the recommendation. If not, it is a good idea to speak to the teacher in advance to ask if they are willing to provide the recommendation and to verify their correct/preferred email address. Once they have agreed, you can enter their name and email address into the online form and we will contact them for the recommendation.
Open the Application itself. It will ask:
The name of the child’s school
The grade the child is currently in.
Medical conditions your child may have that we should know about, such as asthma.
Allergies that your child may have that we should know about, such as peanut allergy.
Indicate whether or not your child’s immunizations are up to date.
Indicate whether your child qualifies for free or reduced price lunch through their school.
The location you are applying to - Charlottesville or Fauquier County.
If Charlottesville, you will be asked to choose between AM and PM. In Charlottesville, each course is offered once from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and once from 11:30 a.m – 1:30 p.m. Once you have selected the grade, location, and time slot, the course titles for that grade level and location will appear on the page.
Rank the courses offered according to how interested your child would be in that course. We try to place each child in their first or second choice of class. However, if certain courses are popular, or if we have to cancel a course for any reason, we may offer them admission to a class that is not their first or second choice. You will have the opportunity to accept or decline the offer, or request to be on a waiting list for the first or second choice class.
The descriptions of the courses for the two locations are listed here:
Fill out the short questionnaire about this child. Please draw upon your knowledge of your child and determine the degree to which you agree or disagree with the statements in that section
You can SAVE the Application page at anytime, and come back to it later, after the student has completed decided which classes they want to take. When the entire application is complete, press the SUBMIT APPLICATION button.
All elements of your application must be received on or before December 1st, 2012 at midnight. Check back on the Saturday Student Home page for each child to see that we have received the teacher’s recommendation required for a completed application. There will be a green check mark next to each item that we have received or a red X if we have not received that item. Please don’t hesitate to call or email us at any point during this process with questions or concerns. This is a new system, and while we have tested it thoroughly, there may be bugs we have not yet discovered.
The application is now closed to new applicants. Thank you for your interest in the Saturday Enrichment Program! We hope you will apply again next year.
If you have any questions about this application procedure or experience any difficulties, please call our office at (434)924-3182.

$50 financial scholarships are available for students who are eligible for their school's free and reduced-price lunch. This could reduce your child's tuition to $100 at the Charlottesville location, and $125 at the Fauquier County location.
