We all know good teachers because we’ve had them. Ones who quickly come to mind long after we’ve left their classrooms. Ones who made us love science, history or math. Teachers play a role in society that few have the privilege of playing.
Unfortunately, the United States lacks a system that ensures every child gets a teacher who teaches well. And frankly, we’ve tried a lot of things to improve the broken system: new schools, with new computer labs and state-of-the-art technology. We test, then test some more.
But improving education is not about technology, testing or even replacing teachers. It’s about building better teachers based on the science of effective teaching. We want to give teachers the skills they need to increase student learning, to improve education, not just in the United States, but throughout the world.
