Prof. Jason Downer Featured on NPR’s With Good Reason Program to Discuss Race in Preschool
Dr. Jason Downer was featured on NPR's With Good Reason to discuss how race plays a role in the preschool classroom. When it comes to behavior and discipline, Downer found that African American boys in particular are viewed as having less behavior challenges when they are in a preschool classroom with an African American teacher, as opposed to a caucasian teacher. Dr. Downer also discussed the notion that boys and African American boys in particular, are more likely to be expelled from preschool, preventing them from engaging in meaningful educational opportunities. Downer discusses implications with NPR's Sarah McConnell on the second episode of Degrees of Separation.
