Curry Student Selected as Science Teaching Fellow

07/05/2011

Sarah Berry, a graduate student in Curry’s Science Education program, has been selected as a 2011 Knowles Science Teaching Fellow in Biology.  Berry, will receive $150,000 as a part of the fellowship.  She is among only 36 teachers of mathematics and science chosen nationally and one of 10 selected in Biology.

This summer, Berry is serving as an instructor for the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP).  A program for gifted students in middle and high school, SEP seeks to offer students a rich and rewarding learning experience. Modeling best practices in curriculum and instruction, Berry works with the rest of the SEP staff to maximize potential in each student and foster a passion for lifelong learning.  Students apply for the program and choose from a wide variety of class topics to take.

Berry is teaching a science class for rising fifth and sixth graders.
