“There was no singing or dancing, but a great deal of passionate language about improving the world,” said Curry Professor and Youth-Nex associate director, Dewey Cornell. Cornell was one of several dozen researchers invited to a symposium intended to define the important issues that the Born This Way Foundation should tackle in its efforts to combat bullying. After a day of academic discussion and debate, he joined a larger audience that listened to Lady Gaga answer questions about her vision for the Born This Way Foundation. Oprah Winfrey, Deepak Chopra, and others took turns asking questions. He said she conveyed great creativity and energy, and emphasized that the foundation is not just designed to address bullying, but to empower youth and inspire bravery. “These concepts certainly aroused the imagination of the large group of adolescents who attended the event as her first group of ambassadors,” said Cornell.
