Prof. Downer Invited to NRC/IoM Panel on Early Childhood PD Supports

04/29/2014

Jason Downer, Director of the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL), was invited by the National Research Council and Institute of Medicine’s Board on Children, Youth, and Families to serve as panelist for the study, The Science of Children Birth to Age 8: Deepening and Broadening the Foundation for Success. This information gathering session on April 29th focused on best practices in professional development of a variety of practitioners working with young children.

Downer was asked to participate due to experience and expertise with MyTeachingPartner™, a system of professional development supports for teachers researched and developed at CASTL.

The panel discussion will inform the development of a report focused on preparing “a workforce to seamlessly support children’s health, development, learning, and school success.” The report will provide targeted recommendations for policy and practice across a range of governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in the health and educational development of children, including the National Institutes of Health and the US Department of Education.
