Summer Reading Programs

The McGuffey Reading Center offers summer reading programs for preKindergarten children through high school.  Prekindergarten camps are designed for 4 year olds and 5 year olds getting ready to enter Kindergarten.  The camps offer preliteracy experiences in a fun learning environment with experienced preKindergarten and Kindergarten reading specialists.  Another camp offered in the summer is the Primary Reading Camp.  This camp is an literacy enrichment for children finishing Kindergarten and First Grade.  Lastly, the Center offers a camp for school-age students who have struggled learning to read and write during the school year.

CASTL Research Brief: Teachers’ Emotional Consistency Matters for Preschool Children

This study examined teachers’ emotional support in classrooms and how it relates to childrens’ outcomes in preschool and kindergarten. Findings suggest that more consistent emotional support was related to better academic and social outcomes, emphasizing the potentially important role of consistency in children’s school experiences.
