The Education Council represents the student body of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. The Education Council serves to satisfy the needs of Curry students by providing a voice to the Curry administration and faculty, as well as the general public. The mission of the Education Council is to improve the experience of Curry students through initiatives that enrich the intellectual, social, and cultural aspects of their lives. In so doing, we hope to develop a stronger community within Curry.
The Education Council President, typically a doctoral student, is responsible for oversight of all major programs and events. The President convenes regular meetings of the Council and provides strategic leadership. Additionally, the President serves as the student representative to Faculty Council and assists the Dean in representing the Curry community at events and functions as requested.
The recording secretary is responsible for agenda development, meeting minutes and the day to day operation of the EdCouncil. The recording secretary is instrumental in providing an accurate historical record of Council accomplishments, keeping the Council in compliance with university requirements and supporting the President and Executive Team as needed. The secretary also steps in for the President at EdCouncil meetings if the President is unable to attend. Finally, the secretary collaborates with other members of EdCouncil to devise and implement solutions to Education School concerns and issues and is responsible for ensuring students know about all events planned by EdCouncil.
The treasurer is responsible for keeping track of EdCouncil expenses and managing its budget. The treasurer is the Chairperson for the Budget and Finance Committee and collaborates with other members of EdCouncil to devise and implement solutions to Education School concerns and issues.
