Doctoral Hooding Ceremony
10:00 a.m
The Curry School will host Doctoral Hooding Ceremony at the Abbott Center Auditorium at the Darden School.  A reception will follow the ceremony.

The deadline for purchasing academic regalia is March 27.  Please contact the UVA Bookstore (800) 759-4667 with questions regarding renting or purchasing academic regalia.

Breakfast for the graduates and their families.  It will take place in the Breneman Courtyard and Bavaro Hall Atrium.

Curry School Graduation Ceremony begins

Students who are receiving degrees in the dual-degree Teacher Education program (B/MT) are currently Curry School students and will attend final exercises, including the lawn ceremony, on Sunday NOT Saturday.  They will be recognized for both degrees at the Curry School ceremony.



Hooding Ceremony: Those attending the hooding ceremony should park in the Darden School Garage. *No permit is required.

Lawn Ceremony: Information for parking and shuttle bus locations for the Lawn Ceremony can be found on the Major Events website.

Curry Graduation Ceremony: Parking is available at the John Paul Jones Arena for the Curry Graduation Ceremony.



Check the Office of Major Events website early in the day to view the weather schedule. The University will decide by 8:00 am which weather schedule (fair, inclement, severe) will be followed. While inclement weather will not impact the Curry Graduation Ceremony, it may impact the Lawn Ceremony: (  This website will provide answers to many of the questions you might have about regalia, parking, handicapped access and more.   You may also sign up for text alerts exclusively for finals weekend from this website.

Curry School Graduation Ceremony
No tickets are needed for the Curry Graduation Ceremony as there is plenty of seating.   Graduates are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the ceremony to prepare for lineup.  Students arriving too late to join the procession will not be allowed to walk on the event floor. 

Students should enter the arena through the student (southeast) entrance where you will see a balloon arch.  Guests should enter the area through the main entrance of JPJ. 

Academic Regalia (Caps/Gowns/Hoods)

​As noted on the Office of Major Events website, The University Bookstore is in charge of distributing caps and gowns for graduates. With a valid photo ID, students may pick up their caps and gowns at following times:

Fourth-Year Week (for undergraduate degree candidates):  Date/Times TBD
Graduate Grad Fair (for master's and doctoral degree candidates):  Date/Times TBD

Wednesday, May 13 - Friday, May 15, 9am - 5pm 

Saturday, May 16 - 7am-5pm

Sunday, May 17 - 7am-9:30am

Doctoral students who are participating in the graduation and Doctoral Hooding ceremonies should purchase an academic hood.  The deadline for purchasing academic regalia is March 27, 2020.  Master’s and Ed.S. students may purchase an academic hood if desired.

Diplomas will be mailed to all May 2020 graduates 4-6 weeks after Finals. If you are a 2019 graduate and you have not picked up your diploma, visit the Registrar’s website ( to find out how you can obtain this document. If you are a May 2020 graduate and have not already done so, please be sure to update your diploma mailing address in SIS before May 1. (Diplomas will be mailed to your home address if you do not specify a diploma mailing address.)
