Early Childhood Add-On Endorsement Course Series (Online)
Interested in developing the critical skills needed to teach early childhood? The Curry School of Education and Human Development now offers an online course series leading to add-on endorsement in Early Childhood Education for Three-Year-Olds and Four-Year-Olds!
Teachers who hold a professional elementary teaching license in Virginia (such as preK-3, preK-6, or special education early childhood) and complete this online course series will be eligible to add the Early Childhood Education for Three-Year-Olds and Four-Year-Olds add-on endorsement.
The Early Childhood Add-On Endorsement online course series is designed to equip licensed elementary teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the distinct learning needs of early childhood students. This course series will provide teachers with research-based strategies to support these students in the general curriculum setting.
Target knowledge and skills include:
- Knowledge of the theories and processes affecting physical, social-emotional, cognitive, and brain development
- Knowledge of major influences of early childhood development
- Exploration of contextual contributors such as family, community, culture, childcare/school and policy and their role in shaping early experiences
Students interested in taking courses in this series must fill out a Non-degree Student form at least a week before the start of the desired term; no application is needed.
Students are encouraged to fill out the form early to ensure they secure a seat in their desired classes.
Students may take courses at their leisure. Once they have completed the requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), they may apply to the VDOE for the add-on endorsement.
