CLASS: Measures of Effective Teaching


The goal of the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project is to help educators and policymakers identify and support good teaching by improving the quality of information available about teacher practice. Independent education researchers, in partnership with school districts, principals, teachers, and unions, are working to develop a fair and reliable measure of effective teaching. CASTL researchers are participating in this larger project by refining and testing the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)™ at upper elementary and secondary levels. The CLASS™ will be used to assess the effectiveness of thousands of teachers throughout the country based on video observations, and the study will assess the degree to which the CLASS is associated with other measures of teacher performance, including student achievement data, students’ reports on teachers, teacher knowledge, and other observational instruments.
