Enhancing Toddler-Teacher Interactions

Supporting Young Children’s School Readiness and Reduced Challenging Behaviors: An Online Course to Enhance Toddler Teacher-Child Interactions

This project will develop a new online course intended to disrupt the trajectory for toddlers with challenging behavior by providing support and resources to teachers. The course aims to improve teacher’s interactions with toddlers in ways that directly enhance toddlers’ early relational, regulatory, and language skills, and reduce their challenging behaviors, thereby enhancing their future school readiness.

The current project will support teachers’ use of universal/classroom-wide interactions as well as targeted practices for individual children in ways that promote young children’s development. The online coursework will be an effective, scalable approach to support teachers working with toddlers. Additionally, teacher resources will be developed and available through the use of tablet technology.
