EdPolicyWorks is a joint collaboration between the Curry School of Education and Human Development and the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy which seeks to bring together researchers and policy makers from across the University of Virginia and the State to focus on important questions of educational policy and implications for the workforce.
We envision that educational policy and workforce competitiveness encompass a broad range of issues and seek to develop a diverse portfolio of research projects and disciplinary perspectives on these issues. We aim to:
- Provide rigorous and timely research to inform the design of education policy targeted to improving educational outcomes and the economic competitiveness of American workers in an increasingly globalized world
- Promote the exchange of ideas that inform policy decisions regarding educational policy and workforce competitiveness
We are addressing these goals through:
Interdisciplinary research is necessary to inform education leaders on many important policy issues, including: collegiate attainment and workforce development, access and retention of underprivileged populations in higher education; the impact of various accountability systems; teacher preparation, effectiveness, and retention; and the design of an effective system of pre-kindergarten education.
The Center hosts presentations of policy-relevant research and structures discussions among policymakers as a means of facilitating the development of policy.
The Center houses access to national, state and local databases and provides computer access to restricted data in a secure data lab.
The Center provides an intellectual home where students and faculty share and develop their interests in education, through mentorship for students and junior faculty, opportunities for students to work with faculty on research grants and participate in the policy outreach efforts of the Center, and a biweekly seminar series that provides an opportunity for faculty and graduate students to present their research.
