Math for America
With colleagues, Wyckoff is exploring the impact of Math for America on the quality of mathematics teachers in New York City and the potential to examine their effectiveness using value-added measures for high school students. Math for America (MfA) is a preparation program that seeks to attract strong undergraduate mathematics majors to pursue a teaching career, providing them with a master's degree in teacher education and financial incentives over their first years in teaching. The research will explore the comparative qualifications of MfA teachers relative to other entering teachers in New York City, the nature of their teacher education program and potentially the value-added high school math achievement outcomes of their students relative to the those of other teachers. This research is being conducted with a grant from the National Science Foundation.
