About the Conference:
Each year our Best Practices Institute provides educators and educational leaders from across the nation with the opportunity to not only gain a solid foundation of the principles and practices of Differentiated Instruction (DI) but also to gain insights into how those elements intersect with current best practices in the field of education.
Participants will begin each day with Carol Tomlinson in the General Session, examining the non-negotiables of differentiation and how those can be balanced with the realities of schools, such as content standards. Following each morning’s General Session, participants choose from a wide variety of Breakout Sessions based on individual needs or interests. Breakout Sessions vary in topics, grade and school levels, content areas, and complexity of content presented.
For example, classroom teachers will find opportunities to gain insights and practical strategies pertaining to management, planning, instructional strategies, and communicating with students and parents about differentiation. Administrators and teacher leaders will be able to attend sessions that emphasize the change process, long-range planning, and communicating with teachers about differentiation. Other sessions focus on assessment (both formative and summative), working with special populations of students, and creating the infrastructure to have a differentiated classroom, as well as opportunities to partner with a conference consultant for individual or small-group support. Regardless of whether you are a beginner or an expert, classroom teacher or district superintendent, kindergarten teacher or college professor, sessions are differentiated to help you grow according to your personal and professional goals.
Registration is completed through an online form and payment system. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. No spaces can be reserved without payment.
Making Your Plans:
The Institute registration fee includes conference materials and catered meals each day for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. Dinner is on your own. Participants are responsible for arranging transportation and accommodations for the Institute. Sessions will begin promptly each day at 8:00 a.m. and will end each day at 3:45 p.m.
For school districts wanting to send large groups but who do not have the names of the participants at the time of registration, please fill out the 'Contact Person' area on the registration form with someone who can be a contact for the group. Please fill in the number of participants who will be attending on the registration form with 'TBD' and then pay for those spaces. 'TBD' participant names and email addresses should be provided no later than two weeks prior to the start of the conference to Kim Jennings at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note: the online registration and payment form can only handle fifteen participants at one time. If you will be sending more than fifteen participants from your district, please contact Kim Jennings at email@example.com to arrange registration and payment.
