VEST Workshops and Talks

Research Talks

Each semester, the VEST program sponsors several speakers as part of the Curry Education Research Lectureship Series. Visit the lectureship website for current bios and abstracts.

Also, EdPolicyWorks hosts the Education Policy Seminar Series each semester that has similar education research talks. Visit the seminar website for current bios, abstracts and downloadable papers when available.

For both of these series, talks may have been recorded and available online. Please visit each website that links to former series with video.

Upcoming Workshops

Upcoming workshops are listed below and may be open to individuals outside of the VEST program, dependent upon space. Please email CurryVEST@virginia.edu to inquire about availability. VEST fellows are required to attend.

Open Science: Open and Reproducible Research Practices
Date: Friday January 10th 2020, 9 - 2:30 PM in Bavaro Hall, Holloway Hall (rm. 116), registration starts at 8:30

Instructor(s): Center for Open Science

Description: The workshop will be a mix of theory and practice. They will present the major points from discussions of open and reproducible research while giving researchers some hands-on practice using OSF as an example of a tool designed to help them improve the openness and reproducibility of your own work. Questions addressed in this workshop include: What is reproducibility and what are the current issues and barriers? What actions in the research lifecycle can be adapted to be more reproducible? How will making my research reproducible help science and my career? How can I increase transparency in my research workflow? What is a research or data management plan and how can implement this in my research workflow? What are tools that can streamline the open and transparent practices in my research workflow? How can OSF help in my application of open and rigorous research practices? Why is preregistration important and how can preregistration and pre-analysis planning help make my research reproducible and avoid bias? How can I make my research open, share it with other researchers in my field or beyond and receive credit for my work? How can I integrate tools I use in OSF to have an efficient research workflow?
