Promise Neighborhoods Charlottesville

This is a neighborhood-focused, comprehensive, developmental support effort growing from the federal Promise Neighborhoods Initiative. The Youth-Nex Center has provided evaluation support including innovative data collection and use approaches.

The Center is part of a Charlottesville city collaborative, one of 15 entities nationwide who received the initial planning and implementation grant. Strong schools are at the center of this work, that will support academic achievement, healthy development, and college and career success. The award was part of the U.S. Department of Education 2011 Promise Neighborhoods Program intended to significantly improve the educational and developmental outcomes of children in the most distressed communities from cradle to college and career. Youth-Nex and its partners including Children, Youth, & Family Services (CYFS) and Charlottesville City Schools are focusing on the area’s Westhaven neighborhood.
