Learning Physical Science Through Engineering

This summer two local schools sent students and teachers to a two-week academy at the University of Virginia to explore ways to incorporate 3D printing and other advanced manufacturing technologies into next year’s physical science curriculum. Curry School faculty and graduate students were on hand to facilitate.

Glen Bull, professor of instructional technology in the Curry School,  and Hossain Haj-Hariri, chair of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, collaborated last year to establish the Laboratory School for Advanced Manufacturing at two local middle school sites: Sutherland Middle School in Albemarle County and Buford Middle School in Charlottesville City. The Lab School was established to identify effective ways of integrating fabrication technologies into the K-12 curriculum.
