Matthew Wheelock’s work focuses on improving opportunities and outcomes for K-12 students, particularly those in Title I public schools. He is particularly interested in progressive educational models, experiential learning, and other innovative approaches that promote student agency, self-efficacy, and motivation – and create pathways to success for students who have previously struggled in school. At Curry, he oversees the dual degree M.Ed./MBA Innovation in Education program that Curry offers in conjunction with UVA’s Darden School of Business and teaches courses focused on educational innovation and entrepreneurship. He is also the founder of Live It Learn It, a nonprofit organization that provides experiential learning programs to students in Title I public schools in Washington, DC and has reached nearly 20,000 students since its founding in 2005.
