Matthew Wheelock’s work focuses on improving opportunities and outcomes for K-12 students, particularly those in Title I public schools.  He is particularly interested in progressive educational models, experiential learning, and other innovative approaches that promote student agency, self-efficacy, and motivation – and create pathways to success for students who have previously struggled in school.  At Curry, he oversees the dual degree M.Ed./MBA Innovation in Education program that Curry offers in conjunction with UVA’s Darden School of Business, coordinates Curry's Ed.D. in Curriculum & Instruction, spearheads the Ed.D. and MEd. Area of Emphasis on Educational Innovation, and teaches courses focused on educational innovation and entrepreneurship.  He also teaches a class at Darden on leading educational innovation and is the founder of Live It Learn It, a nonprofit organization that provides experiential learning programs to students in Title I public schools in Washington, DC and has reached nearly 20,000 students since its founding in 2005.
