Saturday & Summer Enrichment Program

As you know, the ongoing course of the COVID-19 pandemic with infection rates surging both nationally and regionally has required schools across the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation to alter plans for school year 2020-21. Of primary concern for all schools is the protection of the health and well-being of students, staff members, and the broader community. SEP recognizes the efforts by schools to fulfill their educational missions in the best way possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of the needs and interests of many students who wish to participate in academic experiences that are engaging and responsive to their individual interests beyond the regular curriculum, SEP has decided to adapt the Saturday Enrichment Program to meet these extraordinary times. Specifically, SEP will offer online enrichment courses to any interested student in grades 5 through 11 starting in October (we recently added 11th grade students to the offering). The cost of the program is $275. There is also a non-refundable application fee of $25. The application fee supports the ability of SEP to process applications, engage in hiring, and assign students to courses. Due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the application fee is non-refundable even if the program is terminated or a student is unable to attend for any reason. Additional information is available by clicking on the Saturday Enrichment Program link. SEP IS STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS TO THE SATURDAY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM.

Fostering talent development in gifted youth and their teachers.

In coordination with the Curry School of Education and Human Development, the Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) seeks to offer gifted and/or high ability students a rich and engaging learning experience outside the regular classroom environment. Modeling best practices in curriculum and instruction, the SEP staff works as a community to maximize potential in each student and foster a passion for lifelong learning.

SEP hosts two programs throughout the year.  The Saturday program serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade.  The Summer residential program hosts students in rising fifth through eleventh grades.  Please click on the corresponding links for further program and application information.

Saturday Enrichment Program

Traditionally, the Saturday Program is offered every winter, on 5 consecutive Saturday mornings in January and February. This program offers academic enrichment classes for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th. In view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, SEP has not yet set dates for 2021.  Decisions about the traditional Saturday and Summer Enrichment Program in 2021 will be made in consultation with the leadership team in the Curry School of Education and Human Development later in the Fall.
