I research motivation and achievement with a focus on improving outcomes for students traditionally underrepresented in higher education. Much of my research examines how to maximize educational opportunities to promote upward social mobility. I partner directly with practitioners to develop interventions customized for their educational contexts. Recently, my work has examined how we can leverage different types of student values (e.g., students’ personal values that shape their educational experiences, and students’ perceptions of the value of curricular content) to support student motivation and create more productive learning climates. I also have a number of research projects examining best practices for optimally motivating and supporting athletes. For more about my current research please see the Motivate Lab Website
